Students are also taught how to read musical notation and listen to pitch and rhythm as they begin to play on their own.
Broadway Musicals
We are excited about our new partnership with Broadway Star N’Kenge. N’Kenge has created a special combo class just for us combining Musicals & Theatre Plays where students will work together on scenes, monologues and musical numbers. This class allows for dramatic exploration that can provide learners with an outlet for emotions, thoughts, and dreams that they might not otherwise have means to express. One can become another person, explore a new role, try out and experiment with various personal choices and solutions to problems from their own life, or challenges faced by characters in literature or historical figures. N’Kenge will work hand in hand with the students in creating a show that will be specific to showcasing each student’s strongest attributes.
Next Step Broadway
Next Step Broadway offers a variety of exciting dance classes for children of all ages! The Pre-Ballet class for our youngest dancers allows students to explore movement, rhythm and creativity through exercises created to build expressive minds and motor skills while instilling a love of dance. The Combo class allows dancers the opportunity to discover and explore different types of dance in one class; specifically, ballet and jazz. All classes instill grace, coordination, poise and confidence while requiring discipline and focus, bringing dancers through a progression of terminology, technique and artistry.
Clay and Pottery
This class is taught by Jackie Hernandez, a sculptor and our Waldo School art teacher. Children get the chance to work with clay! Children receive the opportunity to make pottery (bowls, spoons, forks, and cups) out of clay. They also have the opportunity to make their own miniature sculpture. The clay that is being used is non-toxic air-dry clay (safe for children). They will have the chance to understand art as a 3-dimensional piece. Once the clay is dry, they get to paint their pieces provided by the teacher.
Drawing Club
Taught by the art teacher Jackie Hernandez, a professional painter and sculptor. Students will explore on learning how to draw with pencils, charcoal, professional copic markers and Prismacolor pencils. Students explore landscape drawings, one point perspectives, self portraits, and tips and tricks through shading with charcoal and pencils in both small and large scale projects.
